Performer, Educator
Matt Penland is a percussionist based out of Washington, D.C. where he is a member of the United States Air Force Band. Matt is also on the instructional staff for the George Mason University Indoor Drumline and The Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps, where the group has won the DCI High Percussion award 5 out of the last 6 seasons. Before he was an instructor in DCI, he was a marching member at the Santa Clara Vanguard, Phantom Regiment, Carolina Crown, and Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps.
Clinician, I&E Champion
Matt was a DCI I&E Tenor Champion, PASIC Tenor Solo Champion, Top Prizewinner at the Atlanta Modern Snare Drum Competition, Great Plains Marimba Competition Semifinalist and Southern California Marimba Competition Semifinalist. He has given masterclasses around the nation, and loves sharing his knowledge about all aspects of percussion, classical and marching! Matt earned music degrees from the University of North Texas and Northwestern University.
