Performer, Educator
Lauren Teel is the Percussion Caption Head for the Troopers Drum & Bugle Corps, Director of Percussion for Mililani High School on Oahu, and a member of the Heartland Marimba Ensemble. Previous appointments include Interim Professor of Percussion for the University of Alabama and Adjunct Professor of Percussion for the University of North Alabama, University of Montevallo, and University of Alabama at Birmingham. Lauren holds a M.M. from Indiana University and B.M. from the University of North Texas, both in percussion performance. She was recently nominated to the PAS marching committee and served as one of three PAS chamber ensemble judges for the 2018 Percussive Arts Society International Convention and judge for the 2019 Percussive Arts Society International Solo Marimba Competition.
Clinician, Instructor
In 2018, Lauren was invited to perform the solo marimba piece “Free Flight” as part of the 2018 PASIC Focus Day events. Lauren was the Principal Percussionist of the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra for the 2018 /2019 season. She competed as a semi-finalist in the 2015 Great Plains Marimba Competition in Oklahoma City, OK. In 2012, Lauren had the privilege of traveling to Chennai, India to perform for an audience of over 75,000 people with Oscar winning composer, A. R. Rahman. Lauren also appeared in the 2013 blockbuster, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, as a timpanist. Lauren proudly endorses Innovative Percussion, Marimba One, Zildjian Cymbals and Remo Drum Heads.
